Go figure...

Last night we had crazy-ass thunderstorms... We got the severe t-storm warning and everything. Then, as I'm watching TV, we got a tornado warning. But instead of it being from the national weather blah blah blah, it was from the police department.

Well, this sucks I'm thinking... I don't have a basement or anything so I guess I'm sort of screwed if I ever get hit by a tornado. So, I go around to open my blinds a bit figuring that if I'm going to get Dorothied, I want to at least see it coming. I looked outside to see my certain doom and found that the weather was actually clearing up.

Another day in paradise. Give me earthquakes any day.

That's what I say -- my homies from the Heartland say they're so scared of quakes, but most of the time you don't even feel them. Tornadoes, now, kick some serious butt.

Having said that, I remember in Kentucky it seems every time it rained we had a tornado watch, and every bad storm brought a warning, so I got pretty jaded.

As weird as it sounds, I sort of liked the earthquake action in Southern Cal. The litle ones were barely mentioned... unless they woke you up or something.

I still remember one that I was there for... It was pretty big and was the slow, wave feeling kind that always mean a badass one. The transformer blew out outside my friends apartment. It was a big one, but it was pretty far away (somewhere like Big Bear).

Out here they changed the warning system too. When I was a kid, a warning meant one was seen. Now it means that the radar picked up a funnel cloud that could likely become a tornado... it's definitely not the same thing.

When in doubt, hide in the closet. I don't know if this is a true story or urban legend, but I heard some woman panicked and hid in the closet. The tornado ripped apart her entire house but left the closet standing and she lived.

Earthquakes in general don't scare me, since yes, the vast majority of them are so slight. That said, the Pacific plate is due for some major activity. The quake that triggered the tsunami, mt. st. helen's dome dropping, tiny earthquakes in the ocean, and the steam vents off the coast of Japan. I'm not going anywhere near the Pacific coast for a while. ;-p
