Jailbait-gate

Giving a whole new twist to the term 'family values', the Republican party leadership has apparently known about the predatory nature of Mark Foley for years, but felt it more important to protect one of their own than to protect high school age pages in their care.

Come to think of it, it gives a whole new twist to the term 'stay the course'.

This guy is scum. Hope he sees the insides of a jail cell, but I doubt it.

He checked himself into an alcohol treatment place...um, yeah...the alcohol made him do it.

The irony would be if he does go to jail, it would be for breaking laws he helped to craft.

Check out my post today dude.

Just did...funny how the world spins, eh?

Isn't it amazing that although humans have been consuming alcohol for thousands of years, it wasn't until 2006 that we discovered it could cause anti-Semitism and child molestation?

Of course, there's a TV commercial running lately that implies that pot can turn you into a rapist. Did God just do some kind of Marvel-like reboot that we don't know about, and now we're living in Ultimate Real Life, where some of the absolute basics have changed?

I'm pretty sure there are cameras rolling and somewhere there is a vast alternate universe audience laughing at us. Or maybe that's just some of that rape pot talkin'. All us lefties smoke the weed you know.

that's sad.

Isn't that their speciality--constantly twisting the meaning of "family values" Every time I turn the corner they have some new subcategory underneathe it like: you must vote republican if you want to be a good father to your children...or some shit like that

Although the whole thing, like Stephen Baldwin, is so rife with awfulness that's it's almost not worth even talking about, this was pretty irritating.

I think one time there was this president who mentioned the buck stopping there, with him. What happened to people like that? What would be so breathtakingly tough about saying, "Yep, we all dropped the ball on this one"?

Is positioning oneself politically just that important? And that's what I really don't get: Since when did taking responsibility for this kind of shit go out of vogue? Even if it wasn't your fault, there's an awful lot to be said for not pointing the finger at someone else. It just makes you look like a pussy.

I don't care about any of these politicians. I'm sure a handful are decent people, and I bet a lot more are just normal folks whose actions aren't any different from what most people's would be in their positions. But for fuck's sake, if a freak lightning storm came along and electrocuted most of Washington, I think I'd feel the same way I feel when I finally put all the crap I've been meaning to do something with but am too lazy to go through into a trashbag and leave it on the curb. That feeling would entirely eclipse my sadness. And that is not a good thing, and I resent the fact that I think I have good cause to feel this way.

I hate to say that I'm astonished, but I am. It's not my fault - the conservatives just pound their virtuous souls and higher morality into our skulls so much I'm always surprised when it comes out that one of them is (a) gay and (b) a pedophile or (c) something else really fucked up that they proclaim is "wrong" but do anyway.

I guess it's true that the loudest voices are usually the guiltiest.

I just read that not only has he signed himself into an alcohol treatment centre, he has disclosed that he was sexually abused by a Catholic Clergyman (but won't say who) when he was a young boy, he is gay and last but not least....he is a scientologist!!

I can just smell a book deal...maybe a movie...no a book... movie...book...

Yeah, alcohol doesn't make you hit on boys. It makes you drive women into lakes.

That said, I support getting rid of Hastert. I've been....well - disappointed is too mild, but I can't think of the appropriate word - in the "Well, we didn't know!" remarks from Republicans. Even if they didn't know, they should be less concerned about their own appearance and more concerned with justice.

Not that I think Democrats have any room to point fingers. Democrats excuse every type of despicable behavior under the sun. Nancy Pelosi even marched in a parade organized by the head of NAMBLA. But, hey. I know the drill. It's only okay if you're a Democrat.

Woah. Woah. Jurgen Nation. Being a pedophile is only something republicans say is "wrong?"

And am I to believe that
you've never done something you believe is wrong? Or is there no such thing as wrong. Only "wrong?"

Is it true that Laura Bush was driving a car that killed a friend when she was 17?

Hey, I know I've written this before, but please do let me know when the mudslinging at either side accomplishes something constructive. ;-) Gosh, I wonder if it would turn out that every single person in every political party in the world has done something wrong at one point. Someone should check on that.

In the meantime, boy, it sure is cathartic to bring these things up, and as long as everyone goes to bed feeling like they've made their point, well, then we're getting somewhere.

Is that the voice of reason?

Tell it to stop being such a buzzkill. Nothing takes the fun out of slinging vitriol like the voice of reason.

What's next? Love and compassion?

Josh said...

I know, I know, I'm a jerk. I'm sorry. I'm working on it.

Maybe if I have a couple of drinks...

Miranda said...

I suspect that the mudslinging does at least as much good as the pleas to stop...but I'll sling brownies instead if I can.

Shawn:
I hadn't heard that one, though an accident isn't quite the same as leaving your girlfriend to drown so your wife won't find out.
