New is good...or at least new

I've been on a bit of a music frenzy lately. I don't want to bore you with the details, but it's been one of those buy one, find five more artists to check out kind of weeks.

It all started with Jimmy Buffett's new album, Take the Weather With You. Not that really led me to anything new, but it did open the floodgates. It's not a bad album, by the way. You kind of need to be a Buffett fan to appreciate it though.

That's the thing about Buffett, it's not so much a bunch of great music as it is a conversation with a good friend. A good friend who brings over beer - good beer. He's been background music for so much of my life that listening to him is like putting on a pair of perfectly faded Levis 501 jeans.

Anyway, that led me to the guilty pleasure buy of the Stick It Soundtrack. Laugh if you want, but it's gotten me through two late nights of work in the last couple of days. And it introduced me to some artists that have me very excited, Panjabi MC and Talib Kweli.

Panjabi MC is some crazy-ass Indian (dot) hip-hop. I don't even know how to describe this crazy cat's music. You'll either love it or hate though.

Talib Kweli is just pretty much awesome. He's the guy all the guys that everyone likes like. Not a supernova on his own...but more talented than most out there. Now I'm looking for as much of his stuff as I can find.

Oh yeah, last week I picked up Method Man's, 4:21...The Day After. It's good. I like it better than Judgement Day, but not as much as Method Man and Redman's, Blackout!

I'm too lazy to link.

LOL, I'm happy to see that Zombieslayer's influence lives on (dot not feather).
Z and I just had a music discussion. I heard a band that wasn't too hot. They sound just like a bunch of other bands, with the same beat, and the same melody. Only the words were different. They sucked. Z informed me that this was 'emo' music, and he hates it too. YESSS! Mom still ROCKS!!

I only know Talib from his Roots cameos, but he seems to be good stuff. And I only know Panjabi MC from the track he did with Jay-Z, but it's an awesome track.

Hey, we had a little Jimmy Buffett question pop up at National Music Magazine Headquarters the other day, and I thought about calling your Parrot-ass: "lost" shaker of salt, or "last" shaker of salt?

Tmom - Mamma's still got the heat. I think that if once you were cool, always will you have that seed of coolness in your soul.

Josh - He's searchin' for his lost shaker of salt...personally, I think is the chick's fault. He shouldn't blame himself for anything...she's nuts. I think she stole it and sold it on ebay.

I never really knew any of Talib's stuff, but now that I've heard some of his lyrics...or dope rhymes as the kids might say...I know that damn that brother is dowwwwwwn.

The Jay-Z one is the Panjabi MC track I just heard...he's pretty good, but maybe not on full time play.

Hey, I found an awesome chatterbot program and I've been playing with it on Sandwich. I've got some pretty funny stuff from having it chat. Now she's just talking.

Excellent, we went with "lost," and that was what I was sure it was anyway.

There used to be this awesome program you could telnet to where you could talk to a dragon, and supposedly there was a way to get out without the dragon burning you to a crisp, but I never did. Now it's gone. It makes me sad every time I think about it.
